(CNS): A 35-year-old Bodden Town man arrested on suspicion of drunk driving early Saturday morning following a fatal accident on the Linford Pierson Highway was released from the hospital on Sunday and bailed to appear at the police station Tuesday, an RCIPS spokesperson said Monday. The motorbike rider killed in the eighth fatal crash this year was 31-year-old Matthew Owens from George Town. The crash involved the motorbike ridden by Owens, a Toyota Mark II, the driver of which remains in hospital in a stable condition, and a BMW, driven by the man arrested over the smash.

Owens, who worked at a local retail store and had become a father just a few months ago, died around 1am Saturday morning on the same road that claimed the life of Donnie Ray Connor in April when he was knocked off his bicycle by a driver in a fatal hit and run.

Just over one week ago police ticketed almost two dozen drivers on that road during an hour-long road block to raise awareness about road safety.

This is sad. Matthew was a great guy . Hopefully we gather some insight into the dangers of riding a bike and put safety first. RIP Buddy
