RCIPS tactical operation with armed officers at Governor’s Square 17 Sept 2015

(CNS) Updated Friday 12:30pm: Two men who were apprehended by armed police officers yesterday afternoon at the entrance of Governor’s Square have since been released. While police have not given any indication yet as to why the officers aimed their guns at the suspects, a spokesperson for the RCIPS has confirmed that at about 4:45pm yesterday, 17 September, “officers from the Uniformed Support Group conducted an armed tactical vehicle stop in the vicinity of Governor’s Harbour”.

Police said that two men, aged 42 and 31, “were detained relative to suspicious activity on their part. Both men have since been released.”

During the incident, which happened a stone’s throw from Government House, the residence of the Cayman Islands governor, on the West Bay Road, USG officers had their weapons aimed at a small black car carrying two men, who were ordered from the vehicle in an as yet undisclosed operation. The Air Support Unit’s helicopter was also present above the proceedings.

The RCIPS has not said what crimes the men were suspected of committing or what triggered the incident but did state that the operation by USG concluded around 5:30 and there was “no cause for the public to be alarmed or concerned”.

Anon 4:52pm what do you honestly expect when you import individuals from jurisdictions that frequently extort, intimidate and shoot & kill members of the public and suspected criminals with impunity little or no regard or repercussions. The aggression and experiences are not a light switch you can just turn off. But you can be assured that the UK knows exactly what its doing and what the outcomes are going to be here. Classical colonial police game UK good cops and Jamaican Bad cops don’t hate player bro hate the game!

I observed two officers from the tactical unit driving in the same type of car on WBR .. they were going below the speed limit and swerving around the storm drains so I thought they were tourists.. I maneuvered around them and they promptly pulled me over for passing in the middle lane.. When I explained that I thought they were swerving and under the speed limit (basically telling them the truth, and I tried to be diplomatic about it).. the one muscular officer took angry offense.. His snapping angry reaction and schwarzenegger physique reminded me of that of anabolic steroid users. I think it would be good for RCIPS to conduct anabolic steroid tests of the officers and expel any found to be using. I happily paid the fine and respect the work of our police but think it’s important for reactions to be balanced and commonsensical .. These should be peace officers not police officers. I understand there are real criminals n island and am grateful to the police service for their work, but illegal steroid users have shown themselves to be dangerous to themselves and others

I am glad you were pulled over for selfishly overtaking in the middle lane. How arrogant and dangerous.

Probably one of those arrogant driver always speeding and don’t like to be behind another vehicle blowing their horn because they cant keep up the speed they prefer.
Your vehicle is not a damn toy, it is your mains and ways of getting you from one point to another. if you have to take minute to be courteous on the road, it might save your own life. Slow down!!

Obstructing the flow of traffic is also an offence. Driving unreasonably below the speed limit is obstructing the flow of traffic. Speed limits are there for a reason, they were set based on the design of the road. They should not be broken either by speeding or driving under the limit. In other words you should not be doing 30mph in a 40mph zone and you should not be doing 50mph in 40mph zone.

Am I the only one who is jaded from not getting details from police on their operations? In other countries details are released immediately, albeit that some crucial details are held back, but here – no names, no suspected crime, not even mention of whether this relates to very long expired car tax, kidnapping, FIFA bribery, or very overt public ‘petting’. Come one, justice should be transparent.

Agree 100%. There are so many big secrets here. Sheesh.
BTW, not sure if jaded is the correct word.

I also agree. When are armed units called out? Not for illegal parking or exceeding the speed limit! Maybe a threat on a part of our government? Come on, CNS, give us some answers.

Back to the article on employers to get back ground checks on employees before they apply for a WP, that’s a joke where most of those people come from for $50.00 you can get a whole new identity including new parents. Cheap labor along with 60 – 80 hour work week with no overtime pay, ( for higher profits ) are our biggest problem here and contributes to our social problems.

“Cheap labour along with 60 – 80 hour work week with no overtime pay (for higher profits)”

You’re obviously referring to the audit and accounting firms on island

and it na going away, these people have infiltrated all our authorithy departments that run this country. It is a sad situation.
They got rid of all the Cayman Police and the English who ran this country by the law, and ran it well.Like all other colonies Politicians poisoned the minds of the people and point fingers at the English, that way they can take over and the corruption starts. they cant conduct enough corruption due to the check and balance, so they chant independence. Da wa ye get!
      We have to suffer!
