Cayman News Service(CNS): Two men have been charged and another two arrested following a violent assault and robbery in Rum Point last weekend. Police said that a 19 year-old local man was with friends near the popular beach spot when he was attacked by a number of other men. During the attack the man sustained cuts, bruises and a dislocated shoulder, and his jewellery was stolen. A 20-year-old local man was arrested on Monday in connection with the assault and has been charged with robbery, actual bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon.

He appeared in court Wednesday and has been remanded in custody to reappear on 14 August.

A second 17-year-old man was then arrested on Thursday and charged with robbery today, ahead of an anticipated court appearance Friday afternoon. Two other men were also arrested in connection with the incident but both of them have been bailed by police.

Thats the problem they are bailed out so quickly. Set the bail higher and then they can sit in jail and wait. Lets see if an actual conviction will happen.

Good work RCIPS, now lets see some convictions.

CNS, can you explain why the police can bail someone out ?

    • Anonymous says:

Police bail is a common tool used by RCIPS to impose certain restrictions on suspects who are the focus of criminal investigations where there is not yet enough evidence to bring formal charges.

Conditions can be placed on suspects, including at least a requirement to return periodically to the police station, but also potentially including curfews, restrictions on movement and financial transactions, while investigations continue. There is no limit to the length of time a suspect can be placed on police bail or how many times it can be renewed.

Apart from our proper sympathy for the victim, hopefully this incident was not witnessed by any tourists. Their interest is not in whether the villains are caught and brought to Justice – their’s is the concern that they might have been the ones who were attacked, and the likely hood of them describing it to friends wherever is home. Friends who might have been contemplating a trip to the Cayman Islands.

Yet Dart is building building building!!! You think he knows something we don’t know????? Why would anyone put their money into this Island now, our crime is high, cost of living is high, foreclosures are high (can’t forget that one) unemployment is high, oops they just don’t want to work, or government doesn’t want to practice what the preach by hiring Caymanians instead of hiring work permit holders!!!

Cannot speak for Dart but I will flip mine and get it back on the market as soon as local buyers have access to everyone’s pension money!
