(CNS): Two female employees of Cayman Airways Ltd (CAL) who have been arrested in connection with immigration offences relating to people smuggling have been “removed from active duty”, the airline said in a statement Friday. Meanwhile, police have said that the investigation involves foreign nationals who were in Cayman legitimately but “whose departure was facilitated with the use of false identities”. The details of the investigation remain unclear but the airline said it was cooperating with the police probe.

“The investigation is complex and involves cooperation with other foreign and local partner agencies,” the police stated Friday evening, confirming that airline has fully cooperated with them.

Officials have neither confirmed nor denied reports that the issue relates to a family dispute and may involve minors.

Cayman Airways said in a release Friday that it initiated the investigation, which led to reports to the “relevant authorities” as a result of “certain passenger movements which appeared to have been contrary to immigration regulations”. The airline said the two women, who have been arrested and bailed but who have not yet been charged, were removed from active duty while the investigations continues.

“CAL’s operations are not affected in any way by this investigation and CAL is unable to comment further at this time given that the investigations are still in progress,” a spokesperson for the airline said.

Remind me on this… I know in other airports at the gate they just ask to see that you have a passport in your hand, don’t want it open, do not need to check… again.

But what about here? Do all airline require you to have your passport open to the picture page as you board?

When you enter Cuba, is your name on a manifest that immigration would check?

This may have nothing to do with wrong doing by employees. A Cuban national legally here buys a ticket to Cuba, a person legally allowed to enter the US buys a ticket to Miami. They exchange boarding cards.

The person heading to Cuba may be in hot water if they do in fact check off the names on the manifest. The Cuban landing in Miami gets a green card.

Customs had a similar Case last year where the staff were smuggling duty free cigarettes like 5 cartons of them. Cant imagine how long that was going on but two staff were fired because of that I believe. CNS check it out. CAL needs to thoroughly background there staff also Flowers and CDS. However I must say getting off a plane in Cayman and seeing all the different nationalities workers on the tarmac, very few are Caymanian and quite dissapointing.

Nice racist touch at the end.

I was starting to get worried that a home grown comment had been placed yet there did not seem to be even a hint of that traditional cayman kind racism. Luckily, the poster turned it around at the end.

God I hope they are not receiving full pay during their “required leave.” We all know these investigations take years.

What’s new. Hardly the first time kids have been moved across our border with false identities. Now watch for the feigned shock and surprise. Glad something has been done about it this time – but I imagine the pressure came from overseas.

“Cayman Airways said in a release Friday that it initiated the investigation”, It would appear that the “pressure” was local

You don’t think the U.S. authorities are a little pissed with us right now?

        • Anonymous says:

Why would the US be pissed? We are not the only country trafficking humans. The US has the most trafficking going on under their nose from the Haitians, Chinese, Koreans etc as sex slave’s and child sex slaves. get real you idiot!!

          • Anonymous says:

Ummm because our systems and our airline may have illegally helped someone to enter their country, idiot.

Why do people, who we do not know their back ground our character are always able to get jobs and in the process make Cayman look bad. When will the born and breed locals get a chance to get a job, in their own country? Stop hiring foreign nationals in such positions for them to be able to do what they are used to doing. Using their heads to carry out their tricks.
    When will we ever learn?
