Jeff Webb, has agreed to extradition to the US to face racketeering charges

(CNS): The former local football boss, Jeffrey Webb (50), has agreed to be extradited to the US, according to international media reports. A number of leading news agency have reported that Webb who is currently being detained in a Swiss Jail is willing to go to the United States and answer the allegations against him in the massive FIFA racketeering probe. This means Webb could appear before a New York court within a matter of days.

Webb, the former president of the Central and North American Football Federation (CONCACAF) and FIFA vice president, was arrested in Zürich on 27 May along with six other FIFA officials caught up in a US investigation spanning more than twenty years, which alleges FIFA executives took bribes and kickbacks amounting to over $150 million in relation to sports tournaments and marketing rights from various sports companies.

Webb appears to be the first of the men arrested in Switzerland to agree to go to the United States and answer the charges.

The Federal Office of Justice (FOJ)  in Switzerland has confirmed that one of the seven men detained by the authorities there agreed Thursday at a Zürich court hearing to the extradition but the office has not named the individual. The FOJ approved the extradition immediately and as a result Webb could be handed over to American law enforcement authorities in less than ten days.

The Cayman Islands had also started an extradition request to the Swiss authorities following charges laid against Webb last week in an unrelated local corruption case. Webb was charged alongside Canover Watson and Miriam Rodrigues in relation to an $11 million contract for a card payment system at the hospital, knows as the CarePay case.

Jeff, and each & every one of his Cayman group who went to Switzerland for that meeting should be ashamed!!! Instead of paying $4,00) per night for each room (I’m sure they were not bunking together) PLUS EXPENSES EACH ONE NIGHT, that one night could have funded our Cayman teams for an entire season! Not to mention trying to get health insurance and boots & gear for the players. Shame Shame – rot bro…

    Good Decision!

Agreeing to the US extradiction order is better than trying to evade the law. It won’t be an easy judicial process with US Authorities, but a truthful testimony of the corrupt FIFA Enterprise and the role he played in its operations. I believe that he will fair better with a plea deal, by helping the USDOJ in exchange for a lesser sentence.
It’s unfortunate that bribery is a “soft” offense and disguising the origin of proceeds/profits in Cayman, as with other Countries, is an accepted norm- until some individual or organization challenges its unfairness and legality, once they are economically disadvantaged.
Again, Mr. Webb, aided by his legal advisor, will seek the best possible deal for reduced penalties, since it is expected that his crimes won’t go unpunished.
I don’t know him personally, but I hope that he will learn from his mistakes, and be able to start life afresh once he has served his sentence.

    • Anonymous says:

LOL, he’s going to have to cut a really good deal to avoid staying in a US jail well beyond normal retirement age. Even then the CarePay charges will still be on the books when he returns here. As for learning from his mistakes? You could be right there but bear in mind the only real mistake he made was getting caught.

    Sharkey.

Since you are so caught up in the justice system of the Cayman Islands and the USA.. Instead of trying to kill Mr. Webb. Why don’t you volunteer to mentor young men of the Cayman Islands That are shooting and killing one another off every weekend. Sharkey you and all the negative people of the cayman islands need to use all that negative energy and turn it into positive energy for the youths of the Cayman Islands. Yes I am a mentor for 4 young men and they are doing great!, be of some value to your country that you all claim to love so much.

    • Anonymous says:

It’s not my country. The government changed the PR rules to make it clear it did not want me to stick around. So I’ll just save more and more cash and leave in a few years.

        Thank god no one cares…

      • Anonymous says:

Yes another paper Caymanian that does not care about cayman its only just what cayman can do for you. If your country is so great why are you here? You should be a shame of your disgraceful self. How can you look yourself in the mirror every day. You are truly a CRIMINAL.

        • Anonymous says:

where does it say he is a Caymanian at all? the real criminal s are the ones putting an accused corrupt official and money launderer up on a pedestal as a Caymanian hero. You are the just showing Legge’s editorial is accurate, celebrating corruption.

Please pick up a bible and look at the 10 commandments, read them and take note, pay special attention to the ones on stealing, bearing false witness and idolitory.

Then look in a mirror and repeat Mathew 7:3

Seriously? Cayman racism at its best. BTW, our countries may be colder, but they face up to their problems and deal with them. Us? We just take the jobs you are not qualified to do, earn money you never will, and take it with us when we leave. At the rate Cayman is currently going with corruption, crime etc, we’ll be gone in a few years. You may wish to come with us then. If you don’t change your tune, we won’t let you. In our countries racism and hate comments are criminal offenses.

    • Sharkey says:

I have mentored kids and adults for 20 years when there was no guns and no bad influence from the out side , and they all turned out to be good citizens. I think that today the problems are too big , if Government/Police do not clean up the crime for me to come back and waste my time on mentoring. I’m not trying to kill Webb, just his legacy of corruption.

  5. Anonymous says:

Why do you all care about this which has been on the news for the past 2 months! listen children you need to discuss them new robberies and them men killing off caymans youths! Matter of fact everyone should get security systems and we all needs to be a force and protect our children!

  6. Sharkey says:

You can dislike my comment, but you can’t protect Webb now. Furthermore he doesn’t have the power you are reading about.

    • Anonymous says:

      Sparked,

Why are you so disappointed that Mr Webb choose to go with out force to the United States of America. Bouy you really envious of Mr. Webb. BoBo stop giving yourself high blood pressure over Mr. Webb.

  7. Anonymous says:

If Webb is in the mood to do the right thing, he may want to consider resigning as President of CIFA.

As it stands he is still President, albeit he is suspended from all football activities by FIFA. He is not up for re-election, so no-one can stand against him, CIFA’s remaining executive committee members do not have the power to remove him and the 2/3rd’s majority of association members required to call an EGM to remove him will never get it together.

    How about it Jeff?

I am not confident however it would be great if he was cleared of the charges. I would hope if cleared the media will report it with equal vigor they have shown since he has been charged.

    • SSM345 says:

7:19, you are a complete idiot. There are 100+ pages of his indictment that will give you a clear picture of his guilt. The FBI does not go to the lengths they have gone unless there will be a conviction. The only question is how much Jeff is willing to spill to get his time in a US Federal Prison reduced, so he can then come back here, and deal with his other charges.

      • Anonymous says:

So the FBI never loses? Wow quite a record. I have read quite a bit of the indictment (which btw is not all about mr Webb) and from what I can see most of the money in question was NOT through his accounts. Yes there is a payment for his pool which is suspect but is it enough? I’m not saying he’s innocent but I also undrestand that he is not guilty until a cuter funds him so. So shut your ignorant face!

        • SSM345 says:

1:41, I think perhaps you need to get your eyes checked, followed by a brain scan, because the 100+ pages of his indictment spell out in plain English what he as done, which happens to be illegal, hence the man will be found guilty.
Like others have already stated on this thread, you wouldn’t know corruption and money laundering if it walked up to you a slapped you in your face. Return to the sand, take a sip of your Kool-Aid, and bury your head back underground where it clearly has been since this whole fiasco came to light.
          You are a complete donkey.

          • Anonymous says:

Ssm your the donkey. Continue to sip on your cheap kool aid hahahahaha yawns yawns!

          • Anonymous says:

Actually the indictment looks to me like a very good basis for a plea bargain deal. Basically, rat out everyone else involved and you might be allowed to keep some of the money and the house. What is really impressive is how hard the feds got him by the short hairs before dropping the hammer – RCIPS could learn a lot from this.

            • Anonymous says:

Unfortunately Jeff won’t get that methinks, there’s another guy, Chuck Blazer, who scooped up that deal when the Warner got caught. And if you buy property with the illegal proceeds on US soil, you don’t get to keep anything, the US Govt. does.

A US jail is probably more comfortable than Northward.

    • Anonymous says:

When your time comes I hope that Northward is comfortable enough for you and your family. When your family comes to visit you in prison. you need to stop stealing from where you are now working. time soon catch up with you. stop being jealous of Mr. Webb. Stop pointing fingers at Mr. Webb because I feel quite sure that you have skeletons in your closet. And your other four fingers are pointing back at you. You will never live to be the kind and Awesome person that he is. You do not know the man. Time is longer than rope. Mr. Webb God is an Awesome God!!!

      • Anonymous says:

Why can’t you accept the plain facts. He is charged with fraud, money laundering and all the other corruption titles. How can anyone say he is awesome and seek to protect him? Like so many here, you just don’t get what is right and what is wrong. He is a criminal, get used to it.

        • Anonymous says:

What you don’t get is that people like you are standing by and letting the young men of the Cayman Islands. Shoot and kill each other. Stop being angry at Mr Webb. Was it your 2 shillings that was mention in the fraud and money laundering??. If not be still. Please explain why money laundering and fraud is worst than having the youths of cayman kill each other. You really have no interest in my country. Help us save the caymans. Tourists that come to cayman are running scared of being shot to death. They are not afraid to come to my islands because of money laundering and fraud. Look with in yourself and if you have never done wrong then you can stone Mr. Webb. But I know you have some skeletons in your closet always. Be still.

          • Marathon says:

Your arguments, (which are ALL over this thread) make so sense. You keep on about youths and guns – which has nothing to do with the case in point i.e. Webb’s criminal activities. Stop trying to compare his criminality with murder – which is nonsensical, and stop complaining that posters aren’t helping Cayman’s youth.

And by the way, I have no skeletons in my closet. Stop assuming everyone has guilty secrets, and that deep down we’re really all just like Webb. We’re not, he’s a criminal, I observe the law. I understand right from wrong but clearly it’s a very confusing issue for you.

  17. Sharkey says:

This sounds like Webb has a lot of power to say where he want to be extradited to, I think that he made a big mistake when he chose the US. I think that “IF” he had that much power he would have chosen the Cayman Islands or some other place where there’s no charges against him.

    • Anonymous says:

Why would he choose Cayman?. You are disappointed or what? sorry Cayman has no power here!, Mr. Webb choose where ever he wanted to go deal with that!, You sound like you are afraid that he might call your name. I know you now must be shaking in your boots.

      • Sharkey says:

Who me shaking in my boots ! !! I don’t associate with people that I don’t know what they are doing and up to, I sleep good every night and I never have to look over my shoulders in my life.

    • Anonymous says:

For your information Cayman did not file for Mr. Webb to be extradited back to the Cayman Islands. Check the Zurich authorities and the FBI of the United States of America. Tthat was only a sham on the Cayman Islands part. When you find the papers that Cayman Islands had file for extradition please PRINT so the whole world can see.

    • Anonymous says:

Mr. Webb you are an awesome man. I know that every football association all over the world are now scared. Especially the Jamaica Football Federation! i know these can not sleep at nights. Show the world what a true Caymanian is made of.

      We love you!

For the love of God stop justifying the decisions some make just for love of money. At this point I can’t judge him and even if he is not charged he was already surrounded by enough questions that should make people simply demand better from other Caymanians and not act as if this behaviour should be condoned, regardless of a verdict.

    • Anonymous says:

to 8.51 what are you implying???? First you alluded that he had so much power, and in the end you decided he has no power. power to do what??? in this case he doing what is right is all that matters. Stop confusing yourself for the sake of writing. As you will read the Cayman Islands has not as yet entered into any extradition proceedings with Switzerland to bring him back. Why do you think he had lawyers for? Dumb Dumb to advise him properly. Lets hope your skeletons are all buried.

      • Sharkey says:

To 7:55, the article says Webb 50 has agreed to be extradited to the US , not his Attorney. In the case of extradition the Swiss has a extradition treaty with the United States, in this case the Swiss courts tells Webb if he has to go or stay, because of what is in this treaty that they the Swiss Government has signed with the United States. You may disagree with my comment, but you can’t help him now.

        • Anonymous says:

Mr. Webb. Does not need any help from you, me or the Cayman Islands. That’s why he has very very intelligent. Lawyers for. You need to go back to your country. Surely. A born Caymanian would have more sense that that. May you be contagiously. Blessed.
