(CNS) UPDATED: A local man who is facing ten counts of sexual assault on children at a government primary school, where he previously worked as a teacher’s aide, returned to the jurisdiction Wednesday after being granted permission to travel by the Summary Court. The 19-year-old man is accused of perpetrating sex offences on students as young as six years old.

He was allowed to leave the jurisdiction, despite strong objections by the courts, to travel to Jamaica because of ties to the community and after a bond of $1,500 was taken pending his return. The teenage support teacher, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is scheduled to appear in court again on 6 August. However officials confirmed that the man did return and surrendered his passport back to the courts Thursday as required in accordance with his bail conditions.

The teenager who cannot be named for legal reasons has not yet answered any of the charges levelled against him regarding the alleged sex offences perpetrated against seven girls, ranging from just six years old to ten years old, during his time working in the public education system.

The man, who is from Bodden Town, resigned from his post after the allegations came to light, the education department said last week in a statement released about the latest incident relating to sex offences committed in government schools.

Delroy James, a Jamaican national, was sentenced in April to a three year jail term after he pleaded guilty and admitted assaulting three teenage boys when he was a drama teacher at a government high school.
