Alden McLaughlin, Cayman Islands Premier

(CNS) Updated: Cayman Islands Premier Alden McLaughlin will be heading to Bermuda this week for a meeting of overseas territories leaders. The premier’s office confirmed the trip, Tuesday, to this year’s host territory for the annual pre meeting ahead of the Joint Ministerial Council in London later this year. The leaders will be discussing economic development, security matters and the territories relationships with the British government.

And, as the CIG wrestles with a decision on whether to press ahead with the plans for cruise berthing in George Town, the leaders will also be discussing environmental issues, which remains a key area of focus for the UK government and its territories as a result of the significant bio-diversity represented across the last of Britain’s former colonies.

McLaughlin won’t be traveling alone the Cabinet secretary  Samuel Rose, this year’s Sherpa Jason Webster, back bench MLA Roy McTaggart and the senior political adviser Roy Tatum will also be going along for the three day trip.

“We meet each year ahead of the Joint Ministerial Council, which will be held later this year, to discuss the many areas in which we can work together. It is an important gathering because the Overseas Territories are diverse,” said McLaughlin. “Through this meeting we will come to a consensus on the way forward to strengthen our collective position at the full JMC meeting.”

Cayman was last year’s host but this year it is the turn of Bermuda again and Premier Michael Dunkley, said the meeting would “provide an invaluable opportunity for us to have frank and meaningful discussions about critical matters facing each of our countries …..”

The three day meeting opens tomorrow, Wednesday, 22 July.

Bermuda has a massive debt and we have a huge surplus and money in the bank. I’m sure our Premier will give them some much needed advice. Cayman rocks!!!

Rock Lover – “There is nothing that Cayman can learn from Bermuda”??!! Please! For one thing Bermuda has a proper and very efficient public transport system – both land and ferry. Hope the Premier learns how that is achieved!!

Bermuda and Cayman have a lot in common.
When Alden returns, he will be spouting off about what he has “learned” in Bermuda.

Some of you just like to write rubbish. Do yourselves a favour and read about a subject to familiarize yourselves before you type. There is nothing that cayman can learn from Bermuda.

Is that why 2014 was their WORST tourist air arrival year in 48 years? Is that why our stay over number out perform theirs? Is that why our cruise arrivals far out perform theirs? Is that why our offshore and banking statistics are better than theirs?

Idiots like you should use the internet for something else than trolling and hating on Cayman. Do some research fool!

Let’s hope our Premier takes the opportunity to learn more of bermudas political history so he may more aptly lead us out of this antiquated political system we live in. Bring it on Wolves.
