Cayman News Service(CNS): A bare-chested man wearing a striped green t-shirt around his face ran off with five single-dollar bills yesterday morning after a daylight robbery outside a grocery store on Crewe Road. The mugger struck around 11:45am Monday (20 July) when he approached a woman who had just left the Crewe Road Mini Mart (Albert’s Floor Centre) at the junction with Belmont Close. The villain demanded money while pointing an object at his victim that was reportedly concealed in white cloth.

It is not clear whether the man was armed or pretending to be but as he demanded the cash, the woman had just placed her bag inside her vehicle, which was parked at the side of the small store. The man went into the bag and grabbed five one-dollar bills before running off in the general direction of the Cayman Clinic.

The suspect was described as having a dark complexion, was shirtless and of slim build, at about 5’10”.  He used a striped green t-shirt to cover his face, police said. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call George Town Police Station at 949-4222, or to contact Cayman Crime Stoppers on 800-8477(TIPS).

Five dollars? That’s $1 less than the minimum wage! See? It doesn’t just sound ridiculous. It IS ridiculous, Brenda.

3:21 take some time out and teach him a lesson. Make sure he is inside and play the number. When you have done your job, take the garbage to the bin.

I believe everyone should get a bike cam, a dash cam or the like. Recent “viral” video of a cyclist being attacked by a driver in Texas was of an exceptional quality. If you record an attack, chances are better that a perpetrator would be caught.

As we slip and slide closer to becoming another Caribbean disaster, our leaders live it up and do nothing to address the REAL issues affecting Cayman.

10:10 spill the goods on the presumptious police. You dont have to say if he from back ah yard, just plaster his name. Too many of those rats destroying our land, people and society and we just cant seem to get rid of them.
Dont let the scumbag put fear in your heart, be ready for him, and do a good job.

I met a guy 2 weeks ago who is 21 years old. His mother brought him over from Jamaica on a helper work permit to help with his step father who had a heart attack 6 months ago. He is not helping his step father and finds odd jobs to survive. The awesome thing is that on a helper’s work permit, he’s exempt from rollover.

There are a lot of hungry, poor and messed up people out there, seems like would be a good idea to have a “soup kitchen” somewhere that they could go to get a meal, maybe have some counsellors there to encourage them to find work, maybe liaise with labor board for some available jobs etc etc ?

Not to make light of the situation because I’m sure the victim was frightened… but I can’t wait to read the comments…
