Cayman News Service(CNS): A man wanted by police in connection with a home invasion and sexual assault on a woman last Thursday night in the Town Hall Road area of West Bay was chased down by officers in the district Tuesday morning and is now in custody at the George Town lock-up. An RCIPS spokesperson said that a 22-year-old West Bay man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary following a pursuit this morning after an intense manhunt over the weekend.

Police said that they have been searching for the suspect intensively and located the local man late this morning in the area of Powell Smith Drive, not far from where the home invasion and assault took place. The suspect ran away when officers approached him but police said he was apprehended around midday after a long foot pursuit through the coordinated efforts of West Bay uniformed patrol, the operational support unit and the police helicopter.

While rising crime and burglaries are taking their toll on the community, this disturbing home invasion had raised further concerns about public safety.

Police Commissioner David Baines said, “We know this case has concerned the community and we have devoted all of our energies to investigating it and making this arrest. My thanks go out to the officers involved who have worked tirelessly on it since it was reported last Thursday night, as well as the members of the public who assisted us.”
