Jason Powery, murdered on 1 July 2015

(CNS): Police investigating the fatal shooting of Jason Powery (20) arrested two George Town men this evening on suspicion of murder. The men, aged 23 and 28, were arrested around 6pm and are currently in custody. However, investigators on the case are still looking for witnesses. Police say they have examined hours of video tape from both commercial and government CCTV in the case and identified around 30 potential witnesses. An RCIPS spokesperson said that any of the individuals spotted on the CCTV around the time of the shooting in Martin Lane, close to a local bar could have critical information. The RCIPS is urging anyone who was in the area on the night of Wednesday 1 July to still come forward.

As police continue the probe into what is suspected to be another gang-related murder, officers believe that some of these thirty or so people may know something that could help but may not even realize that they have key information on Powery’s murder. The West Bay man was shot in the head sometime before 11pm close to the Globe Bar, off Shedden Road.

“These people may not have witnessed the actual killing but may have other information that the police need but they may not be aware that what they know is important so we urge people who were in and around that area before 11pm and after to come forward,” police said about the third murder this year.

A major incident room has been set up at the George Town Police Station and detectives are asking for anyone with information to contact them at 949-4222 or Crime Stoppers on 949-8477 (TIPS).
