Cops arrest fire chief for hit and run

(CNS) Update Friday: Police have arrested Acting Chief Fire Officer John Bodden (47) in connection with a hit and run in January outside Savannah Primary School, when two brothers were hit by a car, which left the scene. Bodden was arrested by traffic investigators for dangerous driving and leaving the scene of an accident yesterday at his home in Lower Valley regarding the incident, which occurred on National Heroes Day, Monday 26 January.

The brothers, aged 14 and 21, were both hit by a car while crossing the street but the teenager suffered the most serious injuries.

At the time of the hit and run, the 21-year-old man was admitted and treated for his injuries on the same day but his younger brother was hospitalized for several weeks with head and leg injuries.

Following the arrest at around 10am Thursday 4 June, police said they also seized a Lincoln Town car in connection with the investigation for forensic examination and Bodden remains in police custody.

At a time when the Cayman Islands Fire Service remains in turmoil, Eric Bush, Chief Officer in the Home Affairs Ministry, told Cayman 27 that the arrest of the acting CFO will not impact operations in the service.Ronnie Dixon has been appointed to act as the CFO, he said.

    This is similar to the West Bay Road Cobra case in the time taken to arrest in circumstances where there seems to be little question as to the circumstances and driver involved. Why so long?
