All of you shut your traps… You wanted to get rich off cheap labour (read that as exploitation of the underprivileged) this is the opportunity cost, pay for value you get…… VALUE! Want it cheap you get……. Scum of the earth!

I think more time should be spent identifying individuals who are here on work permits without “real”, “fulltime” jobs. I hear way too much of “oh I found this person to hold my permit and now I just need to find work”. Have the Enforcement Division of Immigration at the corner establishments where work permit holders holders are hanging out during the day playing Dominoes. I firmly believe there are a lot of people here on work permits without real jobs.

    • Anonymous says:

Hear Hear! Time to stop playing these games. Enforcement needs to be on the STREET instead of behind a desk and Customs needs to STOP the flow of stolen goods getting on planes and boats- small island, 60,000 people- just needs effort

    • Shhhhhh. says:

Are we making the usual premature assumptions here again?

    • geheimnis stadtpolizei says:

Hear, hear. There should be a better way of identifying permit holders during the day when they should be working or in gainful employment. Maybe something visible such as clothing or an identification of some sort.
If they are not employed at night then maybe there should be a restriction on their movements or designated to live in one area.

@10:25 – Speak English please. It is the language of this country, is it not?

    • Sam says:

Are you kidding? There is like 1 officer, for every 100 people on this island and they still can’t do their job. The size of the Cayman Islands is the size of Texas ranch. You can pretty much find all criminals without really looking. Really! Just a couple of experienced investigators from the U.S. would have no problem in finding them all and fast!

we import the police, we import the robbers or import fathers/mothers of the robbers… statistics will show we have imported a new culture, the new generation of young/old who believe you can take what you want or pay for what you want…… this is our new culture

      • Anonymous says:

We can actually deport a large portion of what we have imported, if anyone had the balls.

Government should use the $200,000 they have allocated to rid the iguanas and use that money toward a crime prevention program instead. These idiots who obviously have nothing better to do with their time. NEED TO GET A JOB!!! Maybe if they work they will not have as much free time to rob and steal from innocent people. I have been victim of home invasion and the police are more than happy and come to your home conduct a 3 hour investigation for nothing. I have never heard a word from the police after their investigation was concluded. Great police work fellas.

This did not happen on Raleigh Quay but at Olivia’s Cove – a condo complex directly facing Peninsula Avenue and the by pass. The CoP lives on Raleigh Quay and we do get police drive bys. This was a targeted robbery XXXXXXX.

3 people just came home with alot of money. They are your sons, your boyfriends, your brothers, or husbands or maybe even your neighbors. The police can not be everywhere. If you want the problem of crime to stop, it depends on the community to turn these criminals in.

Here is a prime example of the confused state of affairs in the Cayman Islands. The premiere and members of the LA make a big deal about an editorial ranting and raving about the Compass but are do nothings when we have blatant home invasions and other crime destroying the country.
Get rid of them all, get people who will solve problems not play with red herrings.

    • Shhhhhh. says:

You need to be reminded that our elected representatives have no control over our security force, only over related budgetary matters, and making laws. Security is the province of the Governor and his administration.

      • The Truth be Known says:

Another PPM zombie making excuses. Remember Alden’s big push for the National Security Council during the constitution consultations and how he said that would be thing that changed they way security worked? What happened to that. Fact of the matter is, the government could at least talk about the crime, but they have been too busy writing and delivering speeches about how evil the Compass is.

    • Fred the Piemaker says:

Maybe if the Premier says they are treasonous they will simply run away.

  10. The Country With No Plan says:

I do believe that one method to address crime is to increase Community Policing and with $35 million dollars – there is NO excuse why we can’t have it. The real reason is that the Commissioner of Police has used a major portion of the Police budget to employ a large number of “soon to be retired” police officers from the UK. Basically, following in line with everyone else in Cayman – providing jobs for every one BUT Caymanians.
However, whilst agreeing with the need for Community Policing, the police cannot be aware, every time a crime is committed. Maybe the bigger questions are (1) Why the increase in crime and (2) When is the Government planning on implementing the Crime Reduction Strategies and Recommendations? We have a blue print with numerous ideas, programs, etc. but we don’t have the will power or interest in implementing it – Why? Because crime was contained to poorer areas and among people the Government have no interest in!

Now that crime is teaching the wealthy – hopefully we will see some effort towards crime reduction. It’s sad to say but it’s true.

I agree that this is a terrible event, but I have to wonder how these persons knew there would be a quantity of cash on hand. Why was it on hand? No mention of any other valuables stolen. Seems very targeted. If someone invaded my home they would have to make do with a few dollars and some change. Hope they are caught.

    • Anonymous says:

What I heard was that it was the the Rotary car raffle cash, so this is charity money and they didn’t just terrorize this poor family, they stole from every person who would have been helped with these funds. And you’re absolutely right, somebody knew this person had it and knew where they live.

Well lets see their is a gang of criminals occupying my warehouse on dump road
IT IS MY WAREHOUSE THE POLICE WONT DO ANYTHING
Everybody in the business community as well as the criminal world know the police aren’t doing anything about it
WHAT DO YOU THINK IS GOING TO HAPPEN
SUCH AN OPEN DISREGARD OF THE LAW BY THE LAW
    IS GOING TO CAUSE CHAOS
and that is what is happening
THE CRIMINALS KNOW THEY CAN DO ANYTHING

If this is the life I wanted, I could have moved to Jamaica instead. Hell, at least its cheaper to survive there than here. One of the wolds most expensive place to live, and yet we have become that of a third world country!

    • ProudJamaican says:

Seems like Jamaica is the only place you can pick on!!. You could also move to Honduras, Miami, Detroit, Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens, California, Trinidad, Haiti, and countless others OR maybe you know of a place where there’s NO crime!!!

      • Anonymous says:

Many of these are places Jamaicans have moved to in large numbers. Just sayin. Why do you think almost every serious country has placed visa restrictions on Jamaicans?

      • Anonymous says:

Get real, do not compare those third world places with THE STATES
as you know in the states the police if you are a criminal will shoot you, our prisoners exterminate rapists child molesters etc
The law in the states has no FEAR and will go after any scumbag in any country
Just look at who takes care of the real criminals in Cayman
It is 100x safer in the states
Cayman is a third world country and failing more and more everyday
The US Citizens in Cayman should just fix the problem like they did in Hawaii
look how nice that island is / those queens from England are a bunch of mommas boys they cant do anything that takes Balls

Hey, Jamaica (Jamaicans) gave Jamaica the reputation it has. Now own it!!!

        • Anonymous says:

Exactly! Can’t just talk about Bob Marley forever! Didn’t the white men who pushed you all into Independence make sure you all hate the English and Caymanians so now you all flee but truth be told it really is mainly Jamaicans ruining Cayman BUT only because the gutless leaders, gullible business owners and desperate women keep them……

Own it! Most negatives are Jamaican nationality somewhere

      • Anon says:

He’s right. Jamaica sucks. Cayman is better than this.

      • Shhhhhh. says:

I recently read a Yahoo News item listing the fifteen most violent cities in the world. If I remember accurately, two Mexican, and TWO Honduran cities were listed. I did not see a Jamaican city listed. Ohh, and Detroit was high on the list too! Look out for a travel advisory from Jamaica! LOL.

Police not doing its job as usual…..where are the police patrols on that area? For years the Quay’s have been targeted by burglars and robbers as it’s an easy get away duo to road access and lack of police patrols.

    • Ann says:

I left my beautiful beloved country years ago taking a very risky leap of faith praying to just be able to grow some wings on the way down (and we did thank God) Picking up my family of 7 and leaving my home, my relatives and friends behind needless to say wasn’t easy.
Many of whom left due to the same concerns (along with the ever increasing cost of living of course:) . Sad to say I felt strongly this was the direction my home was going…I also felt it would get worse before it got better (and the killings in 2012 proved that:( ) but never, never did I think it would be so long before our people would get this under some sort of control – frankly statistically burglaries are getting worse yet policing budgets are increasing ??!! On top of this Poor people are really fed up and see no hope in sight – yes even the HARD WORKING ONE’S! At the end of the day in a nutshell this circle of people who are financially able and capable are lining each other’s pockets frankly not giving a shxt! Be very careful all you reap what you sow and think about how frightening it is to come home in the dark nowadays..just how bad it’s going to be in the next few years or sooner. It’ll get worse I assure you ..so contribute in some way (be a mentor..) because at the rate it’s going now it’s not a matter on if it’s going to happen it’s when ! Caymanians & residents really need to wake up and put some fire under these leaders and police commissioners AXX or WHOEVER is in charge to get this under control. Until this is done it will continue this way and WILL get worse. May god bless our little island and our people.

More armed citizens for the Cayman Islands. We have a right to protect our home and our family.

    • Jesse James says:

The bad guys have guns in Cayman. The good guys aren’t allowed to have guns in Cayman. There is something wrong!!!

      • Dennie Warren Jr. says:

While the Commissioner of Police, Mr. David Baines, would disarm private citizens if he could get away with it, the Firearms Law 2008 Revision protects our right of personal protection by means of firearms in section 18(1)(a), which reads: “No person shall discharge any firearm on or within forty yards of any public road or in any public place except in the lawful protection of his person or property or of the person or property of some other person” You can read it for yourself here: http://bit.ly/1Kpl6AR

Now PPM, since the criminals are encroaching on the sacred ground of the wealthy, perhaps you will now address crime in this country. Waiting until the foreigners, and the educated Caymanians leave will be too late to act.
