(CNS): Phase one of a Cayman Water Authority pipeline project that has seen works disrupting Bodden Town traffic for more than a month is coming to an end, officials have said. The authority expects to complete the job, weather permitting, by the end of this month, it stated in a release. The work, which began on 11 May, includes the replacement of over 2,000 feet of pipes from Bodden Town Road at the Cemetery to Gun Square Road. Officials said that 1,720 feet is already installed.

“Customers along the new pipeline will be given notification prior to being connected to the new pipeline as this process may require an interruption in water service,” officials said.

The second phase of the project to upgrade the pipes will not start until 2016 and will replace the pipeline along Bodden Town Road from Gun Square Road to Manse Road.

During the final weeks of the water works, the authority is reminding drivers that from 9am to 4pm, Monday to Friday, access via Bodden Town Road will be restricted to businesses and local residents only.

“The authority wishes to extend its gratitude to the businesses and residents of Bodden Town affected by the recent works for their patience and understanding,” officials stated in a release.
