Suspect driver charged with manslaughter

(CNS): A 24-year-old Bodden Town man has been charged not only with causing death by careless driving and leaving the scene of an accident in connection with a fatal collision last week but he has also been charged with manslaughter. Nicholas Tibbetts, who is an immigration officer at the airport, is accused of killing Donnie Ray Connor, who was knocked off his bicycle on the Linford Pearson Highway in the early hours of Thursday 23 April. Connor’s body was found on the roadside by another early morning cyclist and the police went on the hunt for a silver car with damage to the front end.

Tibbetts was arrested on Sunday and a damaged silver Honda was seized as part of the investigation.

A spokesperson for the RCIPS said that he was charged Friday morning. Tibbetts appeared in Summary Court today (1 May) and was bailed on strict conditions, including an electronic tag, until next Friday, when he will appear in Grand Court after the case was transmitted to the higher court.

Police said that detectives had also arrested a 19-year-old man, understood to be a colleague of Tibbetts, and a 32-year-old woman on Wednesday and Thursday in connection with the case on suspicion of accessory after the fact and attempting to obstruct, prevent, pervert or defeat the course of justice.
