(CNS): An off-duty police officer escaped serious injury Tuesday morning during a collision on North Church Street close to the junction with Fort Street in downtown George Town. The 43-year-old officer was riding his own BMW motorcycle at around 8:30 this morning when it crashed with a Pajero Jeep. Although hurt and taken to the George Town hospital for treatment, the police officer did not receive life threatening injuries and was later discharged.

The male driver of the Pajero was uninjured, police said. There was no indication of what caused the collision as the bike and the car were said to be travelling in the same direction towards West Bay. The RCIPS did not say if anyone had been arrested as a result of the smash, which closed off the waterfront thoroughfare, though there were no cruise ships in port Tuesday.

It was a ex-police officer on the bike so I am quite surprised the entire force didn’t turn up.

My money would be on the Pajero making a right turn into the parking lot and the bike trying to overtake.

Agreed. The police don’t care to enforce existing traffic laws so why would they think they have to follow them themselves on or off the job?
