(CNS): The police are asking for the public’s help to find six Cuban detainees who escaped from the Fairbanks Immigration Detention Center (IDC) in George Town on Sunday night at around 11pm. Officials said that eleven Cuban migrants who were awaiting deportation busted out of the secure facility through a metal grilled window and out of the compound through the wire fence. Four of the escapees were recaptured shortly afterwards and a fifth man gave himself up at the district police station on Monday after making it as far as West Bay.

But two days after the escape, six migrants remained on the run. Officials did not reveal the escape until Tuesday afternoon, when they said an extensive search on Sunday had failed to find the remaining half-dozen men.

The prison service, which now manages the centre, along with other law enforcement agencies, are still all making every effort to locate the missing migrants, a government spokesperson said.

“A full investigation is also being conducted into the circumstances surrounding the escape. Any assistance from the public on the whereabouts of any of the detainees would be greatly appreciated. The public is asked to contact 911 immediately with any information,” officials added.

The prison took over management of the site from the immigration department last year after private sector security firms proved unable to manage security at the site. there had been several escapes and several demonstrations and a near riot when the centre had reached capacity, and the Cuban government was having problems with the repatriation process.

The public is asked to not approach any of the Cubans they spot directly but instead to contact the police. Officials also reminded the community that assisting an escaped detainee is a crime and anyone who is found to aid or abet the missing Cubans could be prosecuted. The missing migrants have been identified as the men below:

I really wish these trouble making Cubans will stay away from Cayman. What is wrong with them anyway. They wash ashore here and some locals risk their own well being by giving them food and clothing and this is how they show their gratitude. Then when they don’t get all the comfort they think they deserve they pull something like this. I have said before and I will say it again- if they had put as much effort into making their own country better as they do with creating expenses on this island and other places they would be better off. They are an ungrateful bunch and should stay away. They are not political refugees, because if they were some of them would not be free to come Back two or three times. They know that the wet-foot policy with the USA is running out so they are clambering to leave- well leave if you must but please do not come here.

Live in Cuba and you’d know why they want to get out. You’d be on a dinky boat desperately trying to seek a better life for you and your family, just like them. Don’t ever forget that life was not like that for Cubans many years ago.

I hope those Cubans make it to freedom that is all they want
If I see them I will give them safe passage, food, $, clothing kindness

According to your line of thoughts we should also kill all the Jews, let the Syrians die in their country, deport all mexicans from USA, send all black people to Africa and exterminate the Irish? oh boy, how wrong you are….

What trouble do they really make, other than escaping? Have they ever killed anyone? Stolen anything? Caused any type of violence? There are many people out there causing way more trouble than these “Cubans”…. and they are not Cubans!

And they thought these events only happen under “Immigration watch”, think again.
