(CNS): Two local business owners escaped injury  after they were accosted and shot at by would-be robbers when they arrived at their Prospect home Monday night. Police said they received the report of an attempted robbery and the gunshot being fired at 10:13 last night (20 April). The couple were reportedly approached by masked armed robbers as they arrived at their home on Bamboo Street, off Marina Drive.

According to an RCIPS report, when the two suspects approached the couple with the firearm and their faces covered, the woman ran inside their home while her husband took a swing at one of them. Both robbers then they fled on foot, discharging a shot at their victims as they ran off.

Police did not say whether both of the would-be robbers were thought to be men but said one was around 5’ 11”, wearing dark clothing, including a black hoodie. The second villain was around 5’ 2” and was also wearing dark clothing, a black hoodie, black gloves with a white cloth over his or her face.

The perpetrators escaped empty-handed and no one was injured but the matter is now under investigation by detectives from George Town CID. Anyone with information about this crime can contact detectives at the George Town Police Station on 949 4222 or by calling Cayman Crime Stoppers on 800-8477(TIPS).

Very lucky the victims weren’t injured and too bad they weren’t able return some hot lead at the perpetrators. Sounds like we are all sitting ducks, gonna break out my spud gun tonight.

The rcip can not be every where and do not know when someone is going to be robbed. It is up to the community to turn in these thugs! People know who they are and before some innocent person is shot dead in a robbery, people need to turn in their sons, brothers, boyfriend or whomever the thug wannabes are.

They can’t be everywhere, but given the frequent occurrence of such activities around the Marina Drive area (incidentally very close to the home of the Premier) perhaps they could at least be there on a regular basis.

I asked it before and I will ask it again, how much longer will the rcip be able to say “shots fired but no one was injured”. The law abiding citizens will be forced to leave this country eventually. Crime is way out of control.

@2:03pm – You are so right, it is only a matter of time before someone is killed. The criminals have access to guns and will use them. Yet, law-abiding citizens are not even able to arm themselves with mace.

I am a Caymanian who has lived on this island for over 30 years and I will be leaving the island at the end of the year. The cost of basic living expenses is ridiculous, crime is out of control, and every day the news reveals more and more instances of, at best,…incompetent actions and decisions by our government, and at worst, examples of plain and simple corruption.

Curious to know where you will be moving? Cayman has many problems, but which utopia will accept you and welcome you as an expat?? We have many people wanting to live here and a lucky few (percentage wise) are moving here from many different countries as they envy us our high standard of living and relatively low crime rate.
