(CNS): A woman was mugged early this morning in the vicinity of the Cayman Reef Resort but the police already have a suspect in custody. The victim reported that she was walking alone along the West Bay Road, close to the resort, when a man armed with a machete jumped from the bushes. The mugger stole items from her handbag, including a wrist watch, leaving the woman with a slight injury to her left hand. The suspect, who was tall and slim, wearing a long-sleeved shirt, jeans pants, had his face covered with a red cloth and spoke with a Jamaican accent. Police say he fled in a dark coloured four-door car.

Officers from the George Town Police Station received a report of the robbery at 12:52am on Friday 17 April. Since then, uniformed officers have arrested an 18-year-old male suspect from George Town who was in possession of property reportedly stolen in the robbery.

The teenage suspect was arrested on Eastern Avenue on suspicion of robbery, possession of  vegetable matter resembling ganja and suspicion of consuming a controlled drug. He remains in custody and the matter is under investigation by detectives from George Town Police Station.

Face up to it already. It would take way too much work to get the police and political leaders here to work period. If anything will get done on this it won’t be by them.

Surely the police arrested a mugging suspect, not a suspect mugger.

Yes but Cuba is an i finitely more dangerous place for tourists than Cayman.

Cayman has had a bad reputation for the last several years. It is not a safe Island anymore. It will soon be as bad as Jamaica.

It’s nothing like Jamaica, and it won’t be unless muppets like you don’t shut up!

“and it wont be unless muppets like you don’t shut up!” Well whatever you were trying to say……it IS very much like Jamaica. Jamaica is not a safe travel destination and Cayman is becoming much the same way. There is no way I would feel safe in Cayman by myself. It wasn’t this way 5 – 10 years ago. Things are out of control fo an Island who depends on the tourtist dollar.

This is really a bad reputation for the Cayman Islands tourism , people getting robbed, killed , drowning , and what else is happening , in a time that our police and political leader’s should be working very hard to make sure that the Cayman Islands is a safe , fun ,and enjoyable travel destinations . I will remind you that a new tourist destination is opening up very fast, now they are taken of terrorism list . All I can say everyone is better get a plan in place and start working on it aggressively.
