Pop a Top liquor store, West Bay

(CNS): Police have said it is too early to tell if the booze shop robber has switched weapons after a gunpoint stick-up at a West Bay liquor store Tuesday evening. An RCIPS spokesperson said uniformed officers at the district police station received a report about the latest booze shop heist at 9:21pm last night (28 April) at the Pop-A-Top on Powell Smith Road, West Bay.

The robber who entered the shop and demanded cash was described as being around 5’ 9” tall and armed with a grey handgun. He was wearing a grey and white t-shirt, khaki pants, a black baseball cap, a black bandana with white patterns over his face, and he spoke with a Caymanian accent. The armed man then fled on foot, heading along Powell Smith Road with cash stolen from the store’s registers.

The hold-up is the third booze story robbery in just one week. The Tortuga liquor store near the Strand Plaza on West Bay Road was robbed last Tuesday and then Blackbeard’s at Grand Harbour on Thursday. Both of those robberies, however, were perpetrated by a man armed with a machete. The RCIPS said that it was too early to say if there was a connection between last week’s armed heists or if the booze shop robber had changed his MO.

Anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity or a person fitting the above description near Pop-A-Top Liquor Store in West Bay between 9:20pm and 9:25pm on Tuesday is asked to contact West Bay – CID at 949-3990 or Cayman Crime Stoppers on 800 – 8477.

Do something for the people and families and this crap will reduce but that won’t happen so crime will continue to get worse. Nothing here for our people and if they can’t make the money, they take it.
