Maedac Supercentre

(CNS): Police are on the hunt for a masked robber who held up the Maedac Supercenter and gas station on Crewe Road last night armed with a machete. The police said a robbery report was made at about 9:20pm Friday while the heist was underway. The man entered the gas station store alone and brandished the machete at the clerk as he pushed a male employee and grabbed an undisclosed amount of cash from the register before fleeing the shop.

Witnesses described the robber as having a light brown complexion and of average height with a slim build. He was wearing a dark coloured jacket, dark coloured long pants, a dark coloured mask and gloves, and may have had his hair in a ponytail.

The suspect was last seen on foot at the rear of the premises as he made his escape. Police who arrived on the scene conducted a search of the immediate and surrounding areas but they did not find the suspect.

A police spokesperson confirmed that no injuries were sustained by anyone during the robbery. Anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident or who may have information is asked to contact DC Stewart at 949 4222 or Crime Stoppers at 800 TIPS .

Whilst I cannot condone any robbery of any description, petrol vendors set themselves up by robbing us blind with pump prices. Only in Cayman have prices not fallen 50%. The robber barons continue to rip us off with their cartel prices and wonder why every now and then someone works out they have lots of cash as a result. Cayman seriously needs an working anti monopoly commission!

Congratulations on pointing out the obvious. No concern for the safety of the employees or customers I see.

Brilliant description of this guy. It would apply to half the island except he appears to be male, with or without a ponytail. This sure gives the fuzz a lot to go on!

Catcha fire. YOU are the reason this country is experiencing difficulties. Stop blaming others for your mess, created by your own.

  4. Anonymous says:

Wake up! It is not expats doing the robbery and you are ruled by your own people else who is McLaughlin, Bush, Connolly, kirkconnel, Rivers, miller, Osborne Suko and the whole sorry state of YOUR own ruling classes!

So where was the canine unit?

Useless Govt. and the Police Commissioner away trying to advise others when he can’t even control where he is assigned to. Why have we allowed ourselves to lose this nice place that it used to be? Wake up Caymanians!!!!!!!

We lost this good place, when we let our guard down and allowed every riff raft to step foot on our shores. The 2003 year is a year that will go down in HISTORY. Stop the influx of undesirables and weed out the problem and ship it.

So how does our Government stop these thugs who seem to prefer to rob? Now if you were suggesting that shop keepers could have Tasers that would be something else.

  8. Catcha fire says:

How sad! if we only had a government who cared enough about our people, these criminal acts would be outrage, instead it is being used and manipulated by our colonial ruler to seek and get employment for friends and family. Another day another robbery of the innocence of Cayman.
