Ultra marathon to take in hidden back roads

(CNS): Now in its sixth year, Cayman’s ultra-marathon, Off the Beaten Track, will take place on 1 March this year, organisers said this week. The islands’ toughest off-road 50k run will take competitors on a venture along hidden back roads, bush, dykes and white sandy beach. Runners ready for a challenge are invited to run the whole 50K alone or in relay teams of six, with each runner completing about 8K. Off the Beaten Track is a favourite for athletes looking for a different type of race that takes in areas of the island they may not even know exist.

The idea for the race originated after Kenneth Krys, KRyS Global’s Executive Chairman & Founder, completed the Marathon Des Sables in the Sahara desert of Africa, and thought Cayman would be the perfect running destination for a similarly challenging race.

Entry to the race costs US $300 for a team of six people and USD $100 for individuals and the funds raised will be used to support Meals on Wheels Cayman and Facing Africa.

Sponsors include Tower, Brown Rudnick, Mourant Ozannes and CML TV. Corporate sponsorship is still available and volunteers are welcome.  Interested parties should contact Catherine Healy 345 815 8407 or OTBT@KRyS-Global.com For more information about this event or to register, please visit www.offthebeatentrack.ky.
