(CNS): Wayne Panton (PPM) became the third Cabinet minister to lose his seat Wednesday night when Alva Suckoo (IND) beat him by just 15 votes. In one of the tightest races of the night, the former PPM candidate who crossed the floor with Tony Eden over their objection to gay rights secured the seat with 43% of the vote over Panton’s 41.5%. The result means that nine very different independents have secured seats, throwing the question of who will lead the government into disarray.

Who paid for the windows currently being installed in the Nation Building church in Bidden Town?

  2. Knot S Smart says:

I saw this morning in another publication where the good Dr claims he supported 5 Independents that were successful in this election. The secrecy concerns me and should concern every voter. How will we the public know whose interests they will be pursuing in their actions? I am also concerned about the hidden power struggle and chaos that is going on behind the scenes to form the Government!
I bet those voters who voted without knowing what the true plans and goals of the so called ‘independent’ candidate they were voting for, are having second thoughts today, or will have in the near future. At this point I would prefer that the CDP and PPM unite to form the Government. At least we know what we are getting…

    • Unison says:

I don’t believe in running a country by independent members that don’t have a unified plan! You ought, out of respect for the electorate, form a party with a manifesto, way BEFORE the Elections!

This is also being transparent with the people! ?

    • Anonymous says:

And in the end how has it mattered? Not one bit.

    Tweedle dee and tweedle fascist.

  4. Unison says:

The Conservative and Christian block of voters did it again for Sukoo and Eden. From the comments made here I can see not too many gay supporters happy Sanannah / Newlands put back in their opponents ?

Aww… the poor sore-losing liberals are out in force to complain!

  6. Anonymous says:

People didn’t vote for Wayne because he wasn’t seen around the district and didn’t doing anything for the district.

Well I don’t have anything against Al, but I live in Newlands and have not seen him in 4 years, nor can I point to anything that he has done for Newlands…but apparently he is going to perform all wonders for the people of Newlands, so I am curious see what he is going to deliver, especially if (as he said) he is ready to take on a ministry seat. Let’s see how much time he will have left for the people of Newlands…….

And please tell me what Anthony Eden has done?

      • Unison says:

        His LIKEABILITY …

And he has accomplish major things re. health and medical care. Moreover, he didn’t attend the Chamber of Commerce debates, showing himself not influenced by the BIG BUSINESS COMMUNITT.

Anthony keeps himself away from being in bad company, and because he put his principles and constituency first, he can say he is rewarded by God!

        HE HAS LOYAL FOLLOWERS ?

Mr. Eden was one of the best health ministers we had; do your homework.

He is a good person to be in there; he keeps the peace.

Wayne also has done a lot for people, he just never brags about it. I call a spade a spade.

But the homophobes can sleep easy knowing that the gays, with their evil, demon, animal loving ways will be kept under wraps.

      Couple of P****s

    • Unison says:

Like what Chris Saunders said – when Caymanians were suffering and in need of their representation they did nothing!

Suckoo looks forward to travelling the world explaining the financial services regulation of the Cayman islands just as well as Wayne did. He will however prefer that only heterosexuals listened to his incisive analysis.

    • Observer says:

Sounds like a sore ppm loser. Loser loser loser. I told you all it was bye bye ppm tata

    • Anonymous says:

Mr. Panton thought that passing 40 pieces of ill thought out legislation was effective governance. Good bye and good night. Thank you God.

Wayne was one of the few that I could get behind as he actually gave a damn about civil issues but once again bigotry wins in this country.

    • Unison says:

      You CNS commenters … LOL … ?

    • Anonymous says:

Wayne lost because he was aligned with PPM. The people of this Country have learned what the PPM are about; Wayne or Al are fine. I don’t think Newlands lost in any way shape or form.

Congratulations Alva!!!!! I’m beyond happy and pleased you got back in the house! Had I live in your district, I would have voted for you any day!

  11. Anonymous says:

Thank GOD!! Bye Wayne … don’t come back. Go and enjoy your millions.

Wayne is a huge loss to Cayman and will be sorely missed as an educated spokesperson in representing us on the International stage , where he restored dignity to our name.

    Congratulations Alva!!!

Anthony Eden is a hateful man and I can’t understand how on earth he got in again. I thought he said he was going into retirement and wasn’t going to run again

    • Anonymous says:

He got back in by democratic process…

    • Anonymous says:

Do you know him or know of him?

      • Anonymous says:

Heard enough vitriol spew from his mouth to know I never want to see him again.

      • Anonymous says:

Heard enough from his speeches and yes I do know him, he hasn’t done a damn thing in Savannah, and is a hateful indiviudal!!!

    • Elector says:

There’s still many people in the Islands who wish to preserve the family and Christian values. Electing Mr. Eden was one away to express that.

    • Anonymous says:

Known Mr. Eden all my life; 40 years, he is not hateful.

He is however, firm in his beliefs and states them without hesitation. He stands for something, which means he won’t fall for anything.

Your opinion is just that; not factual.

  15. Michel says:

    Congratulations Al.

A sad night for Cayman. Bigotry defeats decency. Shame on BT.

  17. Anonymous says:

Tragedy. Wayne got things done and took his licks for it. He was a great financial services minister and conservationist. Alva and Tony got re-elected by hating the LGBT community, thanks to the homophobics around us. A very sad day in the Cayman Islands.

    • Anonymous says:

Very disappointing but not surprising around here.

    • Anonymous says:

They got back in because the people in their constituencies agreed with their views. You say it as if they got in without the support of the people who clearly share their same views. Its frustrating when elections take place and people wonder how someone got elected…the people cast their votes. ALDEN refused the referendum on changing the definition of marriage – a referendum which would have served as a barometer for how Cayman felt about the proposal. Eden wanted the referendum so Government would know what the country felt about the proposed changes and ALDEN would not permit the referendum claiming it would cost $ that could go to social services. SO, there was no referendum BUT none of that $ went to social services either. The reality is the LGBT community deserves representation, if you are not seeing it in the candidates putting themselves forward or in the candidates who were elected then YOU become that representative. Wayne was a good Minister, but he beat no drums loudly for the LGBT community – not nearly as loudly as he beat the drums for feeding the financial services special interest groups. Where did he put most of his efforts? What opportunities did he create for the LGBT community? Wayne paid for a lot of things out of his own pocket, which is admirable – e.g. play equipment at Savannah. That shows two things 1. His own party did not prioritise equipment for the school and 2. He is financially capable of making great change in this country. Ask Wayne to prove much time, effort and $$$$ he allocated to much needed support for the LGBT community in Cayman. He paid you lip service but his actions did not match up with that.

    • Anonymous says:

He may have done something for you, but that does not count.
He was not re-elected. There are people that appear to know him better than you.

  18. Anonymous says:

Another Lodge bites the dust. Goodbye Wayne. Be more truthful next time.

    • Unison says:

You mean LGBT marriage supporter bites the dust!

Lets be honest folks. Marriage & Family were major issues that played a major role in getting Anthony and Sukoo back in!

    • Anonymous says:

Indeed…serves him right though…got to watch for Austin and Kennth they are the new mechanics of the order.

Unless Kenneth has had a soul transplant and a testosterone reduction, I won’t trust him.
Bloody mechanics, masons and eastern stars.
What a royal pain in the butt these people are?
They will shake your hand, promise the earth and then go and consult with the devil.

It would appear that wife-beaters, smokers, drinkers and convicted criminals are the order of the day, but we had that before.

I will bet that they are already playing the God card.

Here is a little snippet of what we can expect.

From one deceiver to another, eh?

If Kenneth is a mechanic then he has only one route and that is into the gleeful arms of McKeeva Bush.

Don’t you dare call my lodge pain in the ass, you are a sore loser and wanting to cast blame where you can but leave us Lodge men alone. If it helps I invite you to see the qualification to join lodge and once you read them your views will change.
