Mobile voters to begin polling Tuesday

(CNS Election): Over 500 people will begin voting early on Tuesday under the mobile voting programme. With just ten days to go before General Election Day, the Elections Office have revealed the details of the mobile vote, which will be conducted next week in all 19 single-member constituencies across four days. The polling stations open from 8am to 2pm – see shcedule below. The deadline for early mobile voting applications and postal votes is today at 5pm.

Officials explained that mobile voting is conducted to enable voters in hospital, rest homes, the elderly, the visually-impaired or others with a physical disability and people who cannot go to the polling station because of their work, on Election Day.

That includes civil servants such as emergency service personnel and all volunteers who will be working on polling Day.  The details of where when and how early mobile voting will happen is listed below.

There were 522 confirmed mobile voters by 11 May and more than 400 postal ballots have also been sent to voters who will not be present on island on 24 May. This means that almost 5% of eligible voters across all 19 constituencies will vote before General Election Day.

Meanwhile, the new voter registration cards will be issued until Friday, 19 May. People can collect the ID cards from the Elections Office at 150, Smith Road Centre, Smith Road, as well as a number of other locations that are still available on Grand Cayman. The new cards replace all previously issued voter IDs. At the time of picking up their cards, voters will have to show a valid form of official identification such as their Drivers Licence, Passport or work ID.
