Political parties in national conference clash

| 07/04/2017

(CNS Elections):  Undecided voters who had planned to attend the conferences of both the Cayman Democratic Party and People’s Progressive Movement to help them decide will find themselves in a tangle this weekend as the party events. where they will be introducing their election teams and manifestos, are happening at the same time. The PPM’s open forum begins at 6:30pm on Saturday and takes place at the Family Life Centre, off Walkers Road, while over at the Lion’s Centre half an hour later, the CDP begins its public session.

The Progressives have local businessman Don Seymour as their keynote speaker, while the CDP has stated it will be hosting “local performers”.

Both parties will be introducing their full slate of candidates for the 24 May General Election. The CDP, led by McKeeva Bush, is fielding just 11 people to contest all four West Bay seats, two in Bodden Town and five of the seats in George Town.

Meanwhile, the PPM is contesting 15 of the seats across all three islands. The Progressive are also supporting the incumbent education minister, Tara Rivers, who is still running as an independent in West Bay South. Daphne Orrett was nominated for the PPM to run against Bush in West Bay West.

Or, is it just a rumor?

CNS: As far as we know, it’s pure rumour, otherwise known as fake news.

Well…well…well! The numbers speak for themselves. If the CDP can only muster up to get 500-600 persons at a kick off rally then that team is in some serious problems. I have been advised by my brother, who happens to be a staunch supporter of the team (for clarity, I am NOT) and who was in attendance tonight that the numbers for him are shocking. If we take the high end of the guesstimate of 600 persons and divide that by the 11 candidates that are running, my maths gives me about 55 attendees per candidate. This is not good for the CDP and they must accept from tonight that they will not be in power come May 25th.

Whilst I have not been given any specific numbers about the PPM function, they too will find themselves in the same boat if they can only garner less than a thousand supporters at a kick off rally.

In closing, things are looking prosperous for North Side in returning Ezzard…….based on an estimate of about 30 attendees at his meeting tonight, Justin Ebanks will be no credible threat to the incumbent.

    Divide and conquer.

Meanwhile, Foster’s is getting robbed and Security Guards are getting shot, prime-time on a Saturday with children and families in full proximity. Welcome to “their” Cayman Islands, folks. Sad.

West Bayers have finally worked up and will likely vote out the UDP this year. Gone are the days of voting for who my mama says. West Bayers are more educated and can see how the district has suffered over the past 20 years.

We want educated and bright candidates who have the highest integrity. We don’t want a fridge and a few beers. We don’t want trips on CAL wasting the people’s money.
