Looking at your choices after Nomination Day

| 30/03/2017

Cayman News Service(CNS Elections): After months of speculation, we now all know which candidates are running in which districts. Yesterday was the day that anyone wanting to run in the 2017 General Elections had to be nominated, and while candidates can still drop out, no one else can enter the political fray. So, are you happy with the choices you have or have you not yet decided? Or perhaps you are so disappointed with the line-up in your district that you’ve already decided not to vote. Let us know in the survey below.

If you are still confused about who is running in your district, check out the CNS Election Section map.

I would actually use my vote if they had a “None of the Above” box on the ballot and if that got the majority, they would have to have a new by-election. Prospector.

A woman from Bodden Town is a candidate in WBC? Who? When? Where ?

    • Anonymous says:

Her name is Kathy-Ann Wilks (Ebanks) and I can assure you she is from West Bay, right down in Boatswain Bay. She is smart, honest and hard working… she is a good person and will do well to serve the people in West Bay Central. (I live in GTC, so not favoring anyone)

  3. Anonymous says:

Well I now have to vote in gtc. I lived in wb my whole life and have voted for Mac in the last 3 elections since I became eligible. I will always stand by that decision. This is a no brainer for me as I do not agree with the ppm policies and beliefs and have actually listened to what Kenneth Bryan can bring to the table and he makes sense. If we hold pasts against these people,Jesus, no one would be allowed to be in as far as I see it. It is about moving this country forward with new and initiative ideas.

    • Anonymous says:

      I meant innovative ideas.

    • Anonymous says:

9.56PM I think that you need to be reminded that Kenneth is PPM at heart . He ran with them and voted with them in 2013. In fact he only turned away from them in mid term when he was asked to give up the well paid job that they gave him. So it is all a personal thing for him, nothing to do with policy.

This election sucks. I live in GTC. My choices are a disgruntled ex-PPM or a current PPM…Why couldn’t somebody else run as an independent here.. Waste of my time to even bother going to the polls.. I can’t in good conscience vote for either of these yahoo’s..

  5. Anonymous says:

In Red Bay. Whoever puts the road from Selkirk to Hurleys in has my vote.

  6. Anonymous says:

I have to vote in GTN. I have no intention o f voting for Joey Hew nor do I want to vote for Progressives again period. What does Joey know about the people in George Town North???..I can’t vote for Karin Thompson, because as a lawyer, that woman has caused too many problems in our family. I find her cold hearted and in my mind she will not and cannot be for all the people in my district. I am left with Pearlina McGaw whom I don’t know. I am hoping that at least she comes out and gives us us more about what she has to offer and hopefully it is good otherwise I plan on taking a trip off island over the election holiday as I cannot in good conscience just vote or the sake of voting..Hate to say it but I don’t like the way this one man, one vote is turning out. We are subjected now to little or no choices…

    • Anonymous says:

I have two minds about Karin. I think she will do an amazing job because she is a lawyer and a very good one. She will eloquently stand up against the mother country and protect the best interests of Cayman.

However if she is in office, who will defend the women of Cayman? We lost Ramsey and now left with some egotistical wishy washy judge. We had Karin to defend us women. Without her, we are at the mercy of this judge and substandard family lawyers.

    • Anonymous says:

Pearlina is UDP disguised as independent and will likely use her platform or position to fund soca parties and mediocre fashion shows.

      CNS Election clarification:
Pearlina McGaw-Lumsden has been nominated as a CDP (formerly UDP) candidate she was never put forward as an independent.

    • Anonymous says:

Well let me tell you this “darling”. If you don’t know Miss Perlina McGaw, you should not let anyone hear that you from george Town.
Don’t matter central, west or east or wherever.
However, I can agree with you on the fact that there is no choice that is worthy. all jokers.
One man One vote will be the ruin of this nation if not reversed sooner.

      • Anonymous says:

‘From GT’ I am ‘from GT’ I am a new voter and have never heard of her. From what I have researched she has accomplished nothing. Karin Thompson however has many years of accolades and accomplishments behind her.

I am the new Caymanian. I am the new voter. I am part of Cayman that will not vote for a family member because I do not have any family members that reside on the island. I am the voter that will vote what is best for the future of the island. It doesn’t matter if you don’t like it. There are many like me that qualify to vote.

        • Anonymous says:

As a generational Caymanian, I’m counting on sensible people like you!

        • Anonymous says:

You “My Darhlin” have my attention now. My response was for the comment to say that you are from GT but did not know of Miss Perlina.
I am glad I took the time to reply to your comment above, and I thank you for your reply.
This is something that has made me learn as well, and the fact that you are saying you are the new voter. And the fact that you have inquired on the person in question to say she has “accomplished nothing” has made me earn your respect.
So I gather from this peaceful round of discussion that Politicians have a lot to learn.
One part that you did not mention, which makes me to believe that you have some sort of education behind you. Is the fact that you did not have to comment that the politician you might vote for has to come to visit you for a handout. This new voter concept is the silent majority that as mentioned there are a lot, and are quite but understand that to vote for someone, its no longer about that $50.00 in the card. However, your absence at the polls could actually have a detrimental effect to the well being of our lovely Cayman Islands. So please vote. Thank you.
no love lost between us. Its Team Cayman.

Who cares about her. She has nothing to bring to the table. She is a wannabe socialite.

    • Anonymous says:

9.37pm I guess Joey knows as much as you since you are saying that you don’t know Perlina. I doubt that very much..Is that what Mac told you to say?

    • Anonymous says:

Anybody but Pearlina. If you say no because of what you know of Joey and Karin, then once you do know of Pearlina, you will beg all your friends to vote for Joey and Karin.

    • Anonymous says:

I know Pearlina very well and I can say that she is more than willing to meet with you so that you can get to know her and learn more about her proposed solutions. Visit CaymanDemocraticParty.com for more about Pearlina and her contact details. A vote for Pearlina won’t be wasted nor in vain.

I am voting in WBC and I am happy to have an intelligent WEST BAY woman to vote for. @12:23pm. Katherine Wilks nee Ebanks is a West Bayer, born and bred. She is the daughter of Mr. Austin Ebanks and was raised in West Bay. She may have moved away for a short period, but certainly resides there now. Please get your facts straight before posting comments. If you don’t know, please ask.

  8. Dejected says:

For the first time ever I will not be voting. I just cannot in good conscience vote for Lucille, Matthew or Austin. I just can’t. The sad part about it being, that it really doesn’t matter. We have the Premier in our area and absolutely no improvements. So I will continue to go about my business and make the most of what I can. We still live on a beautiful island with major freedoms so I will be heading to rum point and enjoy a few. Life is still good!

    • Anonymous says:

These old recycled candidates, please Lucile why again?

    • Anonymous says:

Unfortunately if you don’t vote for Lucile than Matthew gets in office.

    • Anonymous says:

4.11pm You say ” Life is still good!” so why dont you just say ‘Thank You “‘ PPM and vote for Lucille.

    • Anonymous says:

My darling, you don’t make decisions for your country based on whether your neighborhood has a park, good speed bumps or street lights. We can deal with those things for ourselves within our own communities if we want to. You want more out of your MLAs and Premier than that.
Life is good and it is partly good because of where we are as a country right now. Try to preserve that. Vote before you go to rum point.

Now, now, Calm down my Prospect people. While I’m not thrilled about my choices in Prospect, I still take my vote seriously. Which candidate is saying the closest thing to what I want to hear, and do I think they can actually achieve some of the promises they’re making? I’m not too optimistic about their abilities, but we know for sure that one of them will win. I will try my hardest to make sure its the best one.

    • Anonymous says:

You are definitely feeling my pain. I’m Prospect too and will just go with the best ideas for Cayman rather than the lesser of three evils.

      • Anonymous says:

As a fellow prospecter I won’t be voting for who I want, I have to vote strategically to ensure the two greater evils don’t get enough numbers to win. Lucille isn’t a good candidate but at this point I’d prefer her inaction to the horrible actions of the other two. Sigh

        • Anonymous says:

Maybe now all can see how awful of a voting system this one man, one vote is. PPM long had this planned. They got it in the bag, what changes will we really see come May?

You will all see, we have been taken for a really bad ride….

  10. Anonymous says:

Ha, I am in WBC, I have a choice of one of Bush’s croney’s or a woman from Bodden Town?

    Great choices there.

  11. Anonymous says:

As a first time voter, I am absolutely appalled at my choices for Prospect… am really hoping that it’s an early April Fools joke.

  12. Anonymous says:

Gotta go with Lucille there in Prospect. She’s the only one that doesn’t ooze garbage and will tell you as it is.

  13. Anonymous says:

Anyone think their choices are worse than Prospect?

    • Anonymous says:

GT South isn’t much better. I’m going fishing on May 24th.

      • Anonymous says:

You will have a representative in GTS on 25th. May, so please reconsider and vote for who you consider the best for these Islands to move forward in a positive and prosperous way for all. Please do that as it is our future we are voting for. Think, Consider, Think & cast your Vote, PLEASE vote for Cayman Islands, that’s what we all should be doing. Thanks.

        • Anonymous says:

There is nobody to vote for! You deaf and dumb?

Nobody running….of any worth. Won’t be many changes. I AM staying home. That is a right I have also, and I will be exercising it.

    • Red Bay Massive says:

We will build a wall and we will make Prospecters pay for it!

      • L Manderson says:

        Bahahahaha! #redbaymassive #atleastwehavealden

      • Anonymous says:

And then we can secure a contract from Trump to build his wall for him since none of his contractors want to build it for him. Can’t let the Democrats know about the contract though for that would just kill their joy!

    • Too late to run says:

Choice of Tara or JJJ in west bay south is a tough choice for the wrong reasons.

      • Anonymous says:

IT is a choice between someone who has plenty of outside kids and one who doesn’t care about the kids in the education system.

        • Anonymous says:

How many outside children does he have? Where are they? Has he supported them? Has he abandoned them? How has his family treated them?

      • Anonymous says:

JJJ no, no, no way, did nothing before will do even less if elected, no drive, a follower, short sighted and lack of vision for 21st. century.

        • Anonymous says:

What about speaking? He sounds like he is constantly slurring.

        • Anonymous says:

The only reason someone comes out of retirement to be a politician is because they ran out of money. The people of Cayman do not need someone like that in office. Especially added with him on Mac’s shirttail.

          • Anonymous says:

The only reason folk want to be politicians here is for the high salary, the perks and the status… Nothing to do with what’s good for Cayman or Caymanians.

        • Anonymous says:

Oh he did something before….did everyone forget about that airline? was it a Cuba or Honduras airline.

JJJ is not one to vote for.

    • Anonymous says:

Yes…. Red Bay! Alden himself says he doesn’t have time for constituents, he leaves that to his assistant. If he wants my vote, tell me how many constituent clinics HE has had in the last 4 years. How many community events HE has attended since HE has lived in the area for years? Propping up the bar at Country and Station doesn’t count as a community event. If Alden is elected we will be ignored till next election. As for Dr. Frank….who woke him up and why? Talk about a rock and a hard place. Sigh.

      • Alden needs to be held accountable for his promises to remove the dump four years ago. He said he had a plan but now we know that there never was a plan. He said he had a plan simply because he wanted votes. Very sad.

        • Big Brown says:

Don’t lie on the man. He never said the dump would be removed. He said it would be better managed as part of a national Waste Management Plan. The tyres are being shredded after a decade, new equipment was bought and when the tyres are moved from their current site that space will be used for vegetable waste composting. This a huge improvement on what existed before. Caymanians have to learn how to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

      • Anonymous says:

If Alden is busy with your problems and going door to door, then who is running the country.?
This is exactly what the problem is. The Government is to run the country so you do not need them to come knocking to pretend they care about your broken headlight or the leak in the roof that you wasted your money on by going to Cuba when you could not afford it. You get the hint now.?
But one thing for sure. This has got to be the worst set of candidates ever in the history of elections.
The first thing the new Government would need to do is reverse this stupid idea about one man one vote.
A Pehdofile and a wife beater? And another that should be retired long time ago? Come on Cayman, is this all you have to offer right after the Miss Cayman competition?
Rum point will be so packed. The locals can have the excuse that they have to vote, so it be a shame on election day everyone is being served by the permit holders that they all complain about. What irony….

        • Anonymous says:

One man, one vote was executed dishonestly. The only thing that needed to happen was to remove multiple choices from the ballot. We are a gullible nation of total fools. When the colonial jackboot is on your throat, you will reconsider. Until then keep on drinking the kool-aid.

  14. Vote Kirky 2017 says:

I hereby encourage the residents of Prospect to cast their votes as a write in for Kirky. The ONLY choice in Prospect!

    • Anon says:

Kirky is often intoxicated, meaning that he’d tell us the truth whether he is aware or not.

At least he’d be more honest than some have been… hahaha
