Candidates must reveal interests and conflicts

| 28/03/2017

(CNS Elections): All candidates who are hoping to be nominated tomorrow for the May 2017 General Election must submit a form outlining their financial and other interests that could impact them as political representatives. Election officials have said that the Register of Interest Law requires all candidates in the upcoming general election to file a register of interest form on the day of their nomination to show publicly possible conflicts.

The form asks potential candidates to state their business interests, their circumstances of employment, sponsorships, land and property that they own, shares and directorships they hold, gifts from business owners, among other issues so voters will know what if any conflicts a potential candidate may have.

Forms are available on the Legislative Assembly website. They must be given to the Registrar of Interest at the Legislative Assembly Building, 33 Fort Street, George Town, Grand Cayman. The LA will remain open from 8.30am to 5.00pm. Candidates can also call on 949-4236.

Well that would defeat the purpose of getting into politics. I wouldn’t expect any of the candidates to declare anything.
