Bank heist suspect released

(CNS): Update Monday 7 May -- Police say the 25-year-old man they arrested on Friday in connection with Thursday’s bank heist at the downtown George Town branch of Scotia Bank has been released on police bail while enquiries continue. Officers investigating the armed robbery are appealing for anyone who has information in relation to the robbery or who witnessed the car being abandoned in Bronze Road shortly after Thursday morning’s crime to come forward. The bank was held up at around 11:45am when three men, two armed with guns, entered the bank and demanded cash.
They escaped in a waiting dark blue Honda Accord saloon, which was later found abandoned behind Church of the New Testament off North Sound Road. However, the car was caught on camera by a visiting cruise passenger as one of the robbers was getting into the car. The armed masked men reportedly fled with an undisclosed sum of cash but no shots were fired and no one was injured during the bank heist.
Police continue the hunt for the individuals involved in the crime.

In the UK and Ireland, there
In the UK and Ireland, there are banks that employ the use of double doorways in order to enter the premises. Press a button and enter through the first doorways, and then the customer must wait in a secure area between the first door and the second door until the first door has completely shut. Then the customer must press another button in order to open the second door and exit the secure area into the bank. The same process leaving the bank is also in place.
Makes sense, easy to use, easy to secure, easy to monitor. May cost some $$ to install initially, but I hope making the employees and customers alike feel safer is worth it, not to mention security can monitor who is coming and going much better. I think that will definitely help deter potential robbers.

Oh my what a surprise, I mean are we just saying arrest for the sake of it. A tourist witnessed and took a picture of a bank arm robbery and risk his or her life in the process and the RCIPS can't get off their lazy butts knowing they are only 1 minute away from Scotia Bank. I say that a law be put in place asap that allows bank to screen and sensor all customers just like in airports, each customer will have to provide a fingerprint to enter a bank. If you ain't got anything to hide then you won't mind the 1 minute wait. Armed security officers must be part of security operations, also the dummy cash bags with gps tracker.
Cayman is now a well knowned crime destination and soon we'll get the official don't visit warning from the US State Department and from foreign offices. What is our politicians doing about crime, nothing just arguing and pointing fingers while the crimminals are just going about doing their dirt.
When I was a bank teller we
When I was a bank teller we had training in a variety of scams and robbery scenarios. We had counter measures for each to ensure that manager and police were alerted in progress, nobody got hurt, and that the thieves would get caught. I'm not allowed to go into great detail, but suffice to say there were many counter measures available then, and probably many more now. Our branch was robbed subsequently and they caught the buggers a few hours later. All cash recovered. The bank was never robbed again. That was 20 years ago.
We keep reading about the same businesses getting hit for the second, third, fourth time in as many years, you have to wonder whether these business owners have learned anything from their earlier experiences?

20:58 Some of the police have been vigilent in their tackle, but many are TOO LAZY to encounter. The reason why I say this is that they have been told repeatedly to stop cars which are seen driving leisurely after 9 am in the morning with lone rangers in it. That means two or three men who is not working and just scouting out the place.
At nights you will see the same thing. Two or three men just riding around town doing nothing, just looking for mischief. STOP THEM AND SEARCH THEM.

fair point...and remember, they once did try to dig their way into a bank at night......but that wasn't so successful....so I guess they decided to go back to the tried and tested late morning method. So I officially declare that I will not be carrying out any banking until after 12:00 on Thursdays....or maybe I will just give Thursdays a miss altogether.

How about confiscate cars with illeagal window tint and keep them locked up for 30 days, removed the illegal glass and charge the owner for the "repair".? Illegal is illegal, so enforce it!

The Banks should purchase/invest in a few money packs after all they can afford to purchase one for each Teller on the floor.
They are two kinds of money packs, one with a red or pink dye and a one with a GPS tracker. Our government should mandate/ pass a law that each bank is required to have at least one of the above devices to stop these robber from thinking about entering our banks and stealing our money.
The Dye packs and GPS tracker will allow these criminals to caught within half an hour to an hour the most.
Come on Banks not because your money is insured, does not mean you can't help the reputation of the Cayman Islands.

I don't think that the money is insured. This isn't the US. Probably any losses are offset against profits, & therefore the charges made to customers. The robbers are effectively robbing the public.
