This is lmore of an indication of what kind of people can vote in an election on Grand Cayman compared to what kind of people cannot.  The voters got what they wanted, kept their jobs, health care, promised pensions, gas cards, jobs with no responsibilities to actually get stuff done on time or at all, and they still control immigration.  Why would they vote differently just because everyone that pays for their world is complaining?

Get rid of the system or vote for all Independants!  At least, you will have more accountable representation in government!

THE PARTY SYSTEM IS ALL ABOUT THE PARTY!

What is wrong with the people

What is wrong with the people of Cayman? It's sames like they don't remember when a Government done good for them. I'm speaking of PPM, I am not a supporter of them nor UDP, but I had to live and work under both of these parties, two times for UDP for that matter. And the best Government I worked under while living here on this Island is PPM. XXXX

I watch PPM transform Cayman by putting the new Constitution together which included the people of the Cayman Islands, rather than a Constitution being form by Government alone. XXXX

Thanks to PPM for allowing the people of Cayman Islands to be part of this most important Law of the Land, which is what mother country wanted the Government to do from the beginning. Education: PPM worked very hard to put together a new curriculum thanks to Alden McClaughlin, who also tried to get some new schools built, so that the children would have decent and comfortable schools to learn and study at. Say what you all want to say, I know he tried to do a lot of schools at once, but you have to give him credit for his intentions for the children, and the passion for education, to me, that's money well spent.

Government Buildings: PPM work hard to get that new Government Building built, isn't it beautiful? That's Money well spent, for the Glass House was in bad shape, and they had to do something about it.

The License Department: UDP was in power 2001-2005, why didn't they do something about it? Because they are only about themselves. PPM was not like that, they cared about the people, and they give the people of Cayman Islands a nice License Department where they can sit down and relax and wait for their turn, rather than standing outside in the Heat or the Pouring Rain waiting.

Roads: I can remember how bad traffic was trying to get to work in the mornings, that was some experience, today it takes less than half hour to get out of  traffic jams, thanks to the round abouts and the bypass roads, Arden Mclean work very hard to get those roads down. The Bypass to go further in to West Bay has not even been started yet, look from when that suppose to been continued, UDP just sits down on top of it, XXXX.

Now how could 51% choose a box of frozen Squids? When PPM have a proven record that they are here for the people of the Cayman Islands, without any corruption during their reign from 2005-2009, this confuses me, well atleast UDP 4% shows a positive sign that they have failed as a Government, but wait.... they have already failed since 2001-2005 reign, how come they Govern these Isalnds again? It is because some Caymanians have a short memory, and follow Rethoric instead of listening to the facts. I now rest my case, and my vote went to PPM, might as well give them my support also, because they deserve it.

LOL... PPM?  So dumb!  Wasn't that the party that left Cayman in debt about 81 million; or even more because we don't have proper auditing?  Wasn't that also the party that sat on the Anti Corruption Law and did nothing about it in having it enforced?  Wasn't PPM the party that failed to forsee the coming of the Global Recession, spent the public purse, and a left us with a multi-million dollar school in Frank Sound that is still not finish?  Wasn't them the party that behind closed doors with religious ministers and the Governor, had talks on drafting the Constitution, gave little democracy to the people, and more power to the Governor and Commissioner of Police?  Wasn't PPM the party that spent so much money on a cheap helicopter for the Police that takes so much thousand of dollars to have the thing refuel each time it flies?  Wasn't that also the party that hoped to received the Premier's perks and bonuses, expecting the Cayman people to be so dumb in putting them back in for another 4 years?  And to see them now march and protest against development is just pathetic!  Indeed, give me a box of squid any day, and I will show you that I catch more fish from a box of squid than from UDP and PPM parties combined. Sorry... I am a Caymanian, and anyone who comes with the name "party" is never going to get my vote next election.

Boy you sure have swallowed

Boy you sure have swallowed the UDP propaganda.

As far as surpluses and deficits are concerned that is all smoke and mirrors. Both parties have now questioned the FS's competence. But one thing is clear: there is absolutely no way that we could go from a $81m deficit to a $25 surplus in two years in the middle of a recession. That is plain nonsense. One or both those figures are incorrect.

The Constitution does not say that the Premier must receive the perks and benefits that he has awarded himself. That only reflects his self-importance. If he had a care or concern about the people of these Islands he would not be requiring them to pay for his electricity bill while he galavants around the world at their expense while people are out of work.

The UDP was always represented in all Constitutional talks and had concessions made so that they would support it. The old Constitution does not give "more power" to the Governor and Commissioner of Police than the old Constitution. That is just nonsense. We now have a Bill of Rights that we never had before and that alone curtails their powers.  We have a National Security Council on which some of our representatives sit that we never had before. We have a Judicial and Legal Services Commission which means that local people for the first time have some say in the appointment and removal of judges.  Is it an ideal document?. Absolutely not. Is it better than what we had? Absolutely.

The reason the schools are not finished is the UDP who for political purposes breached the contract with the contractor and exposed us to another law suit.

"Sat on the Anti-Corruption Law". PPM was the party that passed the Anti-Corruption Law. It was also the party that passed FOI and it was not for that we would still be none the wiser to irregularities that are going on in govt.

"march and protest against development". You are clearly one of the idiots who thinks any development is a good thing probably because you think you will get a cut. Meanwhile our country can go to hell as long as you line your pockets. Take the EE 'seaport'. Has it lodged in your brain that Imparato was not actually committing to build any seaport but just wanted permission to dig an enormous hole in the ground and completely damage this country and drew pretty pictures to tell us what we could do with it when he was finished?

Did you hear any march or protest agains the Shetty Hospital? The Enterprise City? No, these are sensible projects.

PPM made some mistakes but compared to what we have got now there is no contest. This is hands down the worst govt. we have had in the history of the Cayman Islands. Funny you didn't list their many blunders and scandals but only repeated their propaganda. You don't mention all the lawsuits they have exposed this country to. You don't mention their attempts to suppress Freedom of Speech or to curtail Freedom of Information. I doubt that you are a real Independent. I think you are hoping that by saying people should vote for Independents the UDP will get in like they did last time.

No proper auditing is the

No proper auditing is the fault of the civil service culture.  PPM passed the Anti-Corruption Law.  Most western countries and most economists and politcians within those countries failed to see the recession coming, or ignored the signs of it, and Cayman wouldn't have the slightest influence.  The school isn't finished because the UDP government is not committed to it.  PPM took power away from the Governor and have now submitted a successful motion to take a power away from the Commissioner; they fought hard for the National Security Council (read the transcripts of the constitution negotiations and you can see that they fought every line and got the UK to give up things they have never given before).  UDP is even more in bed with the churches giving them millions of our money and wasting more of it on a monument to our heritage (read: our PAST).  RCIP procured the helicopter from a UK force because they insist on doing things with their own kind, PPM just paid for it (graciously).  McKeeva had a driver before the PPM had their term in office.  Protocol Office did research on what national leaders receive.  It is always at the person's discretion which perks they actually wish to take unless they are advised that security forbids them disclaiming it.  PPM believe in organic development, investment by Caymanians, profit for Caymanians.  McKeeva believes in sucking up to autocratic regimes who you might say have a different 'business culture'.  Asia is not the only place with money.

Not sure where you have been getting your facts but those above are the only ones you need to make your decision.

It is called a "protest

It is called a "protest vote". People are not happy with the UDP government. That is very clear. You are right that the PPM did a number of good things between 2005 and 2009 but they have been very lazy as an official opposition. They are being paid big money. They should be much more active. The should be proposing solutions. Squid represent a demand for something better than we are seeing from either official party. I vote for the squid.

Lazy as the official

Lazy as the official opposition? They proposed numerous motions (which the government voted down). They've forced the government's hand  on a number of issues. They organised to stop the monstrosity that would have been the EE Mega Quarry. With many others they helped organise a march to prostest against the craziness that is the UDP government. They have forced the goverment to do something about the immigration law. They brought the motions for use of pepper spray for self-protection. They have Moses Kirkconnell who is now the PAC chairman and is actually getting some reports done. Offered solutions to the government for the economic woes - namely, the 3 year plan which the government rejected only to implement it a year later. Forced the governor to admit that the premier is under criminal investigation. They brought a motion of no confidence. And I'm sure that I've left some things out.

Doesn't sound lazy to me.

So with their track record as a government and now as the official opposition.... I vote PPM.

Thank you anonymous 14:26

It shows that you have paid closed attention to what the opposition has done along with the Independent member from North Side over the past 2yrs. Some people on here just doesn't want to admit or accept the fact that PPM is still working hard as an oposition. You are also 100% accurate with your facts of what they have done over the years. This Government have away of making their supporters not see the big picture, and then they comes on CNS and saying PPM lazy, like I said before, they are living under a rock. My vote goes 100% to PPM, wish it was election time.

I don't know if you not paying attention to whats going on, our simply ignoring what the opposition are doing. You say they are lazy, I say they are not, they have to work with a Government who don't appreciate their advice or their solutions. When they bring solutions to the house UDP ignore them. I remember them telling the UDP Government not to raise the Import Duties, not to increase the Permit Fees, not to put any increase on the Fuel, because these increase measures would not help the economy, but would make these worst. What did UDP do? The complete opposit, what's has happen to the Islands since PPM was ignored? Business closing down, Houses selling because of Foreclosures, people not renting, Unemployement rate is going up through the roof and people can't afforfd to put food on their tables because of the increase duties. And you telling me PPM haven't brought anything and table it in the house, it is just this Government takes what PPM brings to the house and throw them one side, saying they don't want to hear anything from the opposition. How can an opposition get anything done when the Government don't want to work with them to pull Cayman out of this Financial hole that we are in. Furthermore, just lately, Alden McClaughlin and the PPM laid down some good ideas on how to fix the Rollover Policy to make it better, rather than suspending it, and you telling me that the opposition is lazy, you need to come from under that rock, and pay more attention to what is really going on, I might not post often, but I do observe what is going on in these Islands. And when I post, I post with facts, for I don't live under something call a rock.
